Time king of stories

What is it?

The Institutional Humanization Committee of Santa Casa de São Paulo and Viva e Eduque present the King Time of Stories course that aims to promote the appreciation of the affective memory of our elderly, encouraging volunteers to practice qualified listening, storytelling, and building.

Objective:

To make the participants of the course aware of the importance of the emotional stability of the elderly as one of the conditions that favor their health, through the interaction with the people around them in their daily lives and in their environment, be it a retirement home or hospital.

Methodologies:

- Lectures and theoretical presentations
- Fun and creative activities
- Experiencing Institutions for the Elderly
- Training Internships in homes for the elderly, accompanied by the responsible psychologist
- Workshops organized and/or offered by Associação Viva e Deixe Viver
- Interactive stories presented by participants.

Target audience : parents, pregnant women, students, volunteers, caregivers and health and education professionals.

Class schedule:

1st module
Philosophical foundations of the volunteer who will work with the elderly person
For the volunteer, it is fundamentally important to let oneself be led by the three "C "s that compose the training of every volunteer. Conscience, Constance, and Commitment. In this way, the objective is to seek the integrality of the life of the elderly, emphasizing it, above all. The meeting, which is bidirectional, is governed by values such as respect, understanding, attention, solidarity, and loyalty, thus creating a healthy environment for creation to emerge and new paradigms to be built.

2nd module
Memory rights and citizenship of the elderly
The importance of recognizing the elderly as a fundamental part in building and maintaining society based on past values and experiences, as well as the Eastern societies that value such a way of life, benefiting the new generations by registering these experiences in the local culture itself.

3rd module
Qualified listening and welcoming with health and culture
The humanization in health is characterized by the consolidation of the principles of the Health System in its daily attendance. The National Policy for the Humanization of the Elderly demonstrates that the reception is included in the actions, excelling for the attention that passes through the qualified listening, adding values to reach the elderly in desires and objectives.

4th module
Construction of the history of the elderly
The importance of qualified listening as an instrument of precision to extract stories, especially from the elderly, to whom normally little attention is given in Western society. Qualified listening as a characteristic of respect and attention in dialogue with the elderly. How to begin a story? To whom should it be directed? What is its importance in view of future generations?

5th module
Time management and conflict management
O aproveitamento do tempo dentro das atividades com os idosos, mas também deles em relação ao tempo que tenham para exercerem as atividades que lhes sejam aprazíveis. Lançar mão de ferramentas como SWOT que possibilitam a análise para obter o conhecimento das forças que possam estar ocultas e das fraquezas que possam estar funcionando como obstáculos limitantes ao uso das potencialidades inerentes ao indivíduo.

6th module
Storytelling and the value of affectionate games
The use of time within the activities with the elderly, but also of them in relation to the time they must carry out the activities that are pleasant for them. Make use of tools such as SWOT that enable analysis to obtain knowledge of the forces that may be hidden and the weaknesses that may be functioning as obstacles limiting the use of the potential inherent to the individual.

7th Module Living values in health in palliative care
Even in situations where serious and incurable illnesses lead to the possibility of an early end to life; even in the event of old age, which seems to be the phase of unproductivity, palliative care based on attention and qualified listening, turn to ease the symptoms of the disease, or promote new meaning to the importance of life, old age, and death. Such care is carried to the elderly that the family has neglected, who are in hospitals or entrusted to an asylum.

8th Module King Time of Stories - projection of the future
Projections that the elderly have had for their future. It is the focus of the King Time of Stories: "what I can produce before the end", coming out of the resignation in relation to age, not rarely, producing anguish in the elderly. To seek the effectiveness of the technological proposal that we would have more time in face of the resources it presents.

9th module
Destination (Appreciative Stories)
We recognize the path taken and learn from it. We become storytellers, their listeners, and creators. We leave legacies. Of transforming example to the elderly, of their own example and their stories touched like a lotus that appears on the surface of water, having its roots constantly watered, emanating its beauty to those who know how to look, to those who are yet to learn.

10th module
Literary Slam
Recounting the history experienced by the elderly, eternalizing an encounter made with dedication and heart. The stories can be told or sung, using external resources such as puppets, toys, musical instruments, prints, folds, bladders, etc. at the discretion of the participant.
